A defining feature of the Jewish College Journey to China – Summer 2025 is a 3–4 day homestay with Chinese college students and their families in Hebei Province — a rare and unforgettable immersion into the everyday life of China’s youth and families.

During the homestay, students from the U.S. and Israel will:

  • Live with a Chinese college student and their family
  • Share meals, customs, and everyday routines
  • Participate in family and local community life
  • Experience firsthand how Chinese youth live, study, and connect with their surroundings

This is people-to-people diplomacy at its most powerful — building real relationships through shared lives and experiences.

🤝 Itinerary

Day-by-day itinerary with major stops:

  • Beijing – Great Wall, Forbidden City, cultural landmarks
  • Shanghai – Jewish Refugee Museum, Bund, exchange programs
  • Harbin – Harbin Synagogue, old Jewish quarter
  • Langfang & Baoding – student exchanges and cultural workshops
  • Hebei Province – 3–4 Day Homestay with Chinese college students and their families for immersive friendship and cultural exchange

Note: Itinerary may vary based on flight schedules and local availability.

To make the most of your time in Hebei:

  • ✅ Come with an open mind and a curious spirit
  • 🗣️ Learn a few basic Mandarin phrases
  • 🎁 Bring a small gift for your host family (local souvenirs or something meaningful from your culture are perfect)
  • 🫱 Be ready to share your own story and traditions

💵 Cost & Coverage

  • U.S. students: All ground costs in China covered by Chinese sponsors
  • Israeli students: All costs covered by the U.S.-China Green Institute
  • Participants are responsible for:
    • ✈️ Airfare
    • 🛂 Visa fees
    • 🛡️ Travel insurance
  • A $300 deposit is required at application. It will be refunded if the student is not selected; forfeited if selected and later withdrawn.
